Religious Studies is an emerging major established in universities to meet the needs of social developments. The Department of Religious Studies of Shandong University has been recruiting undergraduates since 2001. Basing on the Center for Judaic and Inter-religious Studies of Shandong University which is one of the Key Research Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences in Universities, this program has formed a complete talent training system from undergraduate to doctoral students.
This program is dedicated to cultivating religious studies scholars and administrators of religious affairs with broad knowledge of humanities. Students will learn and research on the basic theories of religious studies, the doctrines, thoughts and history of the major world religions, and become familiar with China's religious policies and other related knowledge. Students will also accept a basic training in logic, social survey methods and so on, in order to cultivate the comprehensive ability to investigate, analyze, coordinate, organize, and solve problems independently.
This program is unique in the studies of Judaism, Buddhism, Christianity, and Eastern Asian religions. The teaching team is skilled and the Department has established stable cooperation with many universities and research institutions at home and abroad. Graduates will acquire basic theories of religion and major religious expertise. Previous graduates entered famous universities domestic and overseas for further study, or obtain positions in related governments, press and publication institutions, universities and research organizations, public security and diplomacy, and administrative department of religious affairs.
