I.MajorIntroduction
Social work is a service activity, which is guided by altruism and based on scientific knowledge, and uses scientific methods to help others. Social work is a new and high applicability social science, which develops with the process of overall reform and opening-up and the realization of a well-off society in China. This major has a broad development prospects and great social application value, it cultivates people with a solid theoretical knowledge of social work, skilled in social investigation and research and social work skills, they can work in the civil affairs, labor, social security and health sector, also in Labor Unions, the Communist Youth League, Women's Federation, Committee on Aging, Disabled Persons' Federation and other related social organizations and social welfare, services and public interest groups and institutions. They engaged in social security, social policy, social administration, professional social service, project and service assessment, etc.
Social work in Shandong University is one of the earliest 26 social work majors in china and social work department is one of the first units which have access to grant master's degree, it is the only social work professional training center of the Ministry of Civil Affairs in Shandong. At present, there are PhD and master program in social security, BA, MSW program in social work in the Department of Social Work. It has abundant teacher resources as well as solid academic research base and extensive international cooperation and exchanges. Social work in Shandong University is known for theory and policy research as well as the cultivating of practical ability. It has formed advanced educational and research fields and directions in social work practice, social service, organizational management and social policy, etc.

III.EducationalRequirements
Requiring students to master the Marxist standpoint, viewpoint and method, to strengthen the ideological and moral cultivation and form the right value and view of life. Students should mater the necessary basic knowledge of natural science, social science and human science, cultivate the spirit of scientific exploration and the ability of acquiring and applying knowledge; they need to mater a comprehensive basic knowledge of social work and various methods and skills in this field, also need to participate in social practice actively. In addition, students should master a foreign language and have strong written and verbal skills, communication skills and should be proficient in computer. Specifically, after graduation students should have the following knowledge, ability and quality:
