For The ISUSW 2021 Official Opening

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the lives of people all over the world. But it is an amazing grace and a wonderful learning experience for us to meet here and share ideas online. Good morning, Chairman, and good afternoon or good night, friends:

My name is Wang Duu-chiang; you can just call me John. I am the Dean of College of Active Aging and Technology, and the chief of Department of social work, in Tunghai University. Tunghai University was established in 1955 by United Board for Christian Higher Education in Asia (UBCHEA), and is located on the Taiwan.Luce chapel, designed by I. M. Pei, the last master of high modernist architecture, is the well-known landmark in its beautiful campus.

The Department of social work at Tunghai University has played an important role in the development of social work higher education in Taiwan. Bachelor (1979), Master (1984), and Ph.D. (1994) programs was created and there were all the first programs in social work in Taiwan. The generalist approach, field education, and aging issues are our concernsin the recent years.

It is a great honor for me to address this International Summer University in social work (ISUSW). My colleague (Professor LIU, MIR IAM) and my Ph.D. students (WU, TIAN; KANG, JIN; WU,SHAN-WEN; TSAI, CHIAO-JEN) will also share their work experiences with us and explore possibilities of intervention for further in workshop. I hope you will enjoy it and let us keep in touch.

Lastly and most importantly, I want to thank ISUSW program so much for giving us such a great opportunity. I would especially like to thank Professor Gao and Shandong University’s invitation and passion for social work. Thanks for all you do.
